"You may recall using our album 'Daisies of the Galaxy' as an example during your campaign for the presidency in 2000," Everett wrote in his invitation. "The album was supposed to be a bad example for the kids of America," he continued, referring to the statement the Bush camp issued when they found out DreamWorks reps were giving out promotional copies of the album at that year's Democratic National Convention. "Mr. President, I know that you're a Christian, and Christ taught forgiveness. So in the spirit of forgiveness and fence-mending, I'd like to let bygones be bygones..."
The show is "right down the road from you at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue," Everett's deadpan letter explained. "If you're more comfortable at a different house of worship, we're also doing concerts at church in Philadelphia and New Haven the nights before and after the D.C. show. In the name of tolerance, we are trying to represent many faiths on this tour."
E made a similar extension to the Queen of England Elizabeth II last month as he toured in the U.K. "We've played the Festival Hall several times and I've noticed that your royal box is usually empty. I'd like to change that," E said.
The notes to both the President and the Queen also mentioned his book "Things the Grandchildren Should Know," which hits stands in the U.S. this fall. The volume has already been released in the U.K. and it may be worth noting that, while Everett offered the Queen a signed copy, he made no proposition to the President.
Everett did however offer to send Bush signed copies of the Eels' two retrospective collections, "Meet the Eels: Essential Eels Vol. 1" and "Eels Useless Trinkets," both released in January by DreamWorks/Geffen/Ume. "These tracks can be loaded on to your Presidential iPod as well."
"lf you're busy, I understand, but I wanted to put it out there: Let's forgive and forget. lt's the only way to change the world," he finished.
Eels will be on tour in North America March 28 through April 17.

Man Rams Car on I-95, Claims to be Jack Bauer
February 22, 2008 - 10:50amBALTIMORE - A college student was given probation for repeatedly ramming his car into another man's vehicle, claiming the man was a terrorist and he was the character Jack Bauer, a federal agent on the Fox television show "24."
However, the victim, Marlon Cantoral, 30, provided a false address to police and did not appear in any of the court proceedings, prompting prosecutors to enter into a plea deal with the student, Edgar Sullivan, 23, of Elverson, Pa. The student faced up to 10 years in prison for second-degree assault, a charge that was dropped as part of the plea deal.
Cantoral may have been living in the United States illegally, and that may have caused him to provide the fake address, said Wayne Kirwan, spokesman for the Howard County State's Attorney's Office.
According to charging documents, Sullivan was driving his Ford Escape on Interstate 95 last February when he struck Cantoral's van. Cantoral left the highway and was struck a second time before he drove over a grass median strip and fled on foot into the lobby of the Patuxent Institution Correctional Facility.
Sullivan followed Cantoral inside and tried to assault him, shouting "he's a terrorist," according to charging documents.
"My name is Jack Bowers (Bauer) and I work for the FBI and the Secret Service. My wife and family was kidnapped by the president and terrorist," Sullivan continued, The (Baltimore) Examiner reported Friday, citing charging documents.
Officers contacted Sullivan's father who said his son was not married and the family was fine, authorities said.
In court Thursday, Sullivan apologized for the incident, telling Howard County Circuit Judge Richard Bernhardt that he has been attending alcohol treatment and plans to graduate in May.
Sullivan, a student at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County who pleaded guilty in September to drunken driving, smiled but did not speak as he left the courthouse with his parents.
"This is rather embarrassing for him," Sullivan's attorney Charles Broida said after the court appearance.
"It was bizarre, but he doesn't remember it."

Affleck joins State of Play cast
Ben Affleck is to replace Edward Norton in the film version of BBC TV drama State of Play - the second major cast change for the political thriller.
Affleck will take on the role of a US congressman embroiled in a conspiracy after Norton asked to leave the film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Actor Brad Pitt pulled out in November, to be replaced by Russell Crowe.
Shooting was scheduled to begin before the end of the year but has since been put back to January.
The delay led Norton to withdraw from the film so he could honour a prior commitment to appear in Leaves of Grass, a comedy directed by fellow actor Tim Blake Nelson.
Legal action
Directed by Kevin Macdonald of The Last King of Scotland fame, State of Play also stars Dame Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright Penn and Jason Bateman.
The original TV series - about a team of journalists investigating the mysterious death of a political researcher - starred John Simm, Bill Nighy and David Morrissey.
Pitt's departure, reportedly due to script concerns, was said to have prompted distributor Universal to consider legal action against the star.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Macdonald flew to Australia to persuade Crowe to fill his shoes.

Russell Crowe In Talks To Replace Pitt In Play
Russell Crowe is in final negotiations to replace Brad Pitt in State of Play, saving Universal and Working Title’s delayed political thriller from shutting down. Pitt pulled out of the movie last week, citing script concerns that made him uneasy about toplining the picture. That brought him to loggerheads with the studio, which was adamant about going ahead with the script they had. Even meetings with the movie’s director, Kevin Macdonald, proved fruitless. Macdonald spent the weekend in Australia talking with Crowe, who had to see if Play could fit into his schedule; Crowe is scheduled to shoot Universal’s Nottingham, the Ridley Scott-directed reimagining of the Robin Hood story.
Variety reports that Brad Pitt has pulled out of a pay or play deal on State of Play, putting the Universal Pictures drama in a state of flux. Pitt dropped out of the film early Wednesday, following two weeks of struggle and meetings with director Kevin Macdonald that prevented the film from making its original November 15 production start date. The trade says the studio will try to find a star to replace Pitt. If Universal doesn’t recast and get the picture going by November 29, it will begin losing the other actors in the film. Pitt was set to star with Edward Norton, Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman and Robin Wright Penn in the Matthew Michael Carnahan-scripted adaptation of the British mini-series. Pitt was playing a politician-turned-journalist who spearheads a newspaper’s investigation of a murder, a trail that leads to the fast-rising pol whose campaigns were once masterminded by Pitt’s character. Universal said: “Brad Pitt has left the Universal Pictures production of ‘State of Play.’ We remain committed to this project and to the filmmakers, cast members, crew and others who are also involved in making the movie. We reserve all rights in this matter.”
